Amid the ongoing controversy and sharp criticism from the opposition parties in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, the Indian Congress, on Wednesday, alleged that Yogi Adityanath led ‘terrified’ Uttar Pradesh government has suspended the internet in Sitapur where Priyanka Gandhi has been held for over 48 hours.

The Indian National Congress from its official Twitter handle tweeted, “The dictatorial BJP rule in the Centre and state is trying to crush the voice of the Opposition. They will not succeed. We will not deter.”

This came after UP officials denied permission to a 5-member delegation of the Grand Old Party headed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to visit the Lakhimpur Kheri district, citing that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been imposed in Lucknow.

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who recently resigned from Punjab Unit Chief, on Tuesday, warned the UP government that the Punjab Congress will march to Lakhimpur district, if the accused is not arrested, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was detained, is not released.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “If by tomorrow, the Union Minister’s son behind the brutal murder of Farmers is not arrested, and our leader Priyanka Gandhi being unlawfully arrested, fighting for farmers is not released, the Punjab Congress will march towards Lakhimpur Kheri .”

After the deadly violence took place, ahead of the crucial UP Assembly Election, several political leaders are trying to visit the site, meanwhile, some are expressing their displeasure through social media sites.

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and President of the DMK, MK Stalin also took to Twitter and wrote, “The attack on the U.P farmers protesting against the farm laws is highly condemnable and I demand an impartial, high-level investigation into the death of farmers. Perpetrators of this cruel act must be punished legally.”

Stalin added that opposition leaders including Priyanka Gandhi who tried to meet the farmers are detained. They shall be freed and allowed to exercise their democratic rights.

“The Union Govt can no more remain apathetic to the concerns of the farmers and let these untoward incidents continue. It must realize that repealing three farm laws in toto is the only way to restore normalcy and peace,’ Stalin tweeted.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Officials, on Tuesday, said that a case has been filed in Sitapur against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and 10 others under sections related to preventive detention due to apprehension of breach of peace.

The officials said that the case is filed under Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) sections 151, 107, 116 (all related to preventive detention because of apprehension of breach of peace) has also been registered against Ajay Kumar Lallu, Chief of UP Congress and party leader Deependra Hooda.

As the situation is intensifying with each passing day, a total of six districts of UP, Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Kasganj have been placed on alert due to protests by farmers and political parties.

On Tuesday, leaders and party workers of Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP), and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) conducted protested against the UP government in the headquarters of all six districts. They demanded the resignation of the Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra and the immediate arrest of his son.

A total of 8 persons have died in the clash and 4 of them are farmers. According to the protesters, a car from the convoy of Ajay Mishra's son ran over the protesters who were going back, after staging a protest against the controversial farm laws by the Union Government.
