Bollywood Update: Bollywood maintains its offshore collection streak as TEPK and Kaala charm globally
Satirical comedy-drama TEPK was released in the name Toilet Hero has topped the opening weekend in China’s box-office.

The craze for Bollywood movies is increasing worldwide, from US to China. Many Bollywood movies have successfully hit the high notes on global box office this year and latest to the list is Akshay Kumar’s TEPK and Rajinikanth’s Kaala.
Let’s talk about Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (TEPK) first. Satirical comedy-drama TEPK was released in the name Toilet Hero has topped the opening weekend in China’s box-office. The film which landed in mainland screens on 8th June this month raked $9.05 million (Rs 61.1 crore) in the opening weekend.
After having had a successful run on the Indian box-office, the film is doing exceptionally well in China. Having been released on 11,700 screens, the film has been well received by the Chinese audience and has registered the fourth biggest opening for an Indian film.
After topping the charts on the opening weekend, the film collection saw a slight decline on day 4 but successfully crossed the 80 crore mark.
The other release of this year making headlines globally is superstar Rajinikanth starrer Kaala. The Pa. Ranjith directorial received a simultaneous release worldwide on 7th June in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Despite the low key initial buzz, heated clash with Jurassic world sequel and amidst controversies surrounding the film, Kaala crossed Rs 100 crore mark worldwide in just four days of its theatrical run.
The film has minted $1.62 million (Rs 10.8 Cr) in four days, in the USA, becoming Rajinikanth’s highest performing film in overseas territory. It has already become the third highest grossing Tamil film in USA.
Another good overseas territory is Australia where the movie has grossed Rs 2.06 cr in four days. Now, it has become 2018’s second highest opening Indian movie in Australia.
