The assembly election results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are likely to come out during the Parliament's Winter session commencing on Wednesday.

The centre is planning to introduce 16 bills during the 17 sittings of the session. The opposition party, Congress will seek to corner the government over the issues including the border disputes with China.

The counting of votes for both states will be done a day after the session starts. The outcome is expected to have a direction on the proceedings as the verdict can be used to corner the rival parties.

This winter session is expected to be the last session held in the existing Parliament house.

Opinion polls have predicted a big win for the BJP in Gujarat for the eighth straight term and a standoff in Himachal Pradesh.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary said that the party will raise matters related to the economic situation in India, the weakening of constitutional institutions, and reservations for the EWS.

Talking about the border issues with China, Ramesh said that there has been no discussion on it and the tension has been there for the last 22 months. Congress wanted to discuss this issue in Parliament. If the government is ready for discussion on this, Congress will extend its constructive support to it.

He further said that the opposition party will also discuss the issues of high inflation, falling of the rupee, and high GST rates, among other things.

Rahul Gandhi is likely to miss the winter session due to his ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra.
