Alot of first-generation entrepreneurs start from humble backgrounds and work their way up to make a name from themselves while making a difference to those in need and giving back to the world. Dr Rashmi Gupta, Director, Felix Hospital, Noida is one such example.
Erecting the hospital and running it successfully was one of her biggest challenges. Dr Gupta worked from the ground level. Due to both money and manpower constraints, she herself made the project reports, supervised construction, negotiated with banks for lower interest rates, purchased equipment based on the latest technology and did all the jobs required to build a hospital.
Overcoming all the hurdles at every stage of establishing a hospital — from allotment of land and building the hospital to its opening — she opened doors for needy and deprived patients in a record time of 14 months. A dream nurtured by Dr Gupta and her husband Dr D.K. Gupta became a reality in August 2015, when Felix Hospital began operation. This brought laurels not only from the financial institutions but also from various quality monitoring and assessment authorities.
Talking about her future plans for Felix, Dr Gupta says Felix Hospital aspires to be the most trusted healthcare organisation in Noida, and for which the management team has undertaken a number of transformative initiatives to focus on the fundamental building blocks of patient centricity and robust clinical outcomes. For driving higher margins, measures such as streamlining operations, reducing corporate office cost, optimizing headcount to enhance manpower productivity, lowering procurement costs in supply chain and IT, evaluating models from outsourced to inhouse for radiology and thorough review of all outsourcing contracts have been implemented.
“Going forward, the hospital business growth will be driven by focus on vertical and horizontal expansion. The aim is to open a chain of hospitals in the coming days,” informs Dr Gupta.
Felix also encourages collaboration and communication, developing a strong workplace culture, facilitating opportunities for learning, a positive work environment, and problem-solving exercises with the team. They have also come up with new projects, like FOS or Felix Operating System, to embed best practices across each department.
They have also created an internal marketing team in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Marketing strategy involves careful and precise scanning of the internal and external environments. Internal environmental factors include the marketing mix and marketing mis modelling, plus performance analysis and strategic constraints.
External environment factors include customer analysis, competitor analysis, target market analysis, as well as evaluation of any elements of the technological, economic, cultural or political/legal environment likely to impact success.
A keen interest and a hands-on approach is what sets Felix Hospital apart from its contemporaries.
