The wait is over. WhatsApp users can soon send media files of up to 2GB for transfers. The company has been rolling out the feature in phases already and everyone is expected to have it in the coming weeks.

The announcement of the much-awaited 2GB media file transfer feature had been made back in March. After comprehensive testing in Argentina, the Meta-owned WhatsApp is rolling out the larger file share feature to its larger user base.

“You can now send files within WhatsApp up to 2GB in size at a time, protected by end-to-end encryption. This is an increase from the previous limit of 100MB and we think will be helpful for collaboration among small businesses and school groups. We recommend using Wi-Fi for larger files and we’ll display a counter while uploading or downloading to let you know how long your transfer will take,” announced WhatsApp, on its blog.

WhatsApp has also released a new feature that allows its users to react to messages with emojis. This feature was previously available on Instagram.

In the near future, the messaging app is also going to introduce a ‘Communities’ feature that will allow people to bring separate groups on the app under a single umbrella.
