The Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday said that the all-India wholesale price index (WPI) number eased to 10.7 per cent in September against 12.41 per cent in August 2022.

The ministry said that the food inflation based on the WPI food index also decreased from 9.93 per cent in August to 8.08 per cent in September 2022.

"Inflation in September 2022 is primarily contributed by the hike in prices of mineral oils, food articles, crude petroleum, chemical products, basic metals, electricity, textiles etc. as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year," it added.

Meanwhile, India's retail inflation rose to 7.41 per cent in September on higher food and energy costs, data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation showed.

Food inflation, which accounts for nearly half the consumer price index (CPI) basket, rose to 8.60 per cent in September 2022 as compared to 7.62 per cent in August.

According to data, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) also contracted 0.8 per cent in August as compared to 2.4 per cent in July.
