Storage is something we just can't get enough of it. I remember when I bought my first PC I was in awe of 1 GB storage. More than a decade and a half later storage needs have taken a quantum leap to terabytes. These days even a 1TB storage isn't enough. With multiple devices external hard drives provide a great storage solution for accessing data on the go. WD My Passport has worked on its its design and pricing rather well to fulfill this need for portable storage.
WD My Passport comes in four variants ranging from 1TB to 4TB in 6 vibrant colors. The design is compact and fits easily in the pocket.
Some of the features include
Auto Back Up:
My Passport comes with WD Backup software that allows you to schedule backups including the time and frequency of backups. You can automatically back-up photos, videos, music and documents from your system onto your My Passport drive.
Security and Password Protection
My Passport has a built-in 256-bit AES Hardware Encryption with WD Security software. This helps keep your content private and safe. Easily add a "return-if-found" message as the password prompt in case your My Passport drive ever gets lost.
Pricing
1TB - Rs. 3899,
2TB - Rs.5851,
3TB - Rs. 9734,
4TB - Rs. 9899
What's Great
Design and durability
Design is good. Its compact and fits really well in the pocket. The colors are vibrant which include orange and red and overall it's a good looking product. Besides its high on durability with shock tolerance. There is also a 3 year warranty.
Pricing
For the kind of storage, durability and design My Passport provides it is definitely value for money. Consider this for example, a reliable storage of 2TB for under Rs.6000 is well worth it.
What's Not Great
Performance
WD should work on the performance. The data transfer speed is nothing too great.
Strengths
Avg. 4K Random Write Speed 1.6MB/s
Avg. Sequential Write Speed 65MB/s
Weaknesses
Avg. 4K Random Read Speed 0.4MB/s
Avg. 4K Random Mixed IO Speed 0.18MB/s
According to Userbenchmark speed test The WD My Passport 2TB averaged 71.2% lower than the peak scores attained by the group leaders. This isn't a great result which indicates that there are much faster alternatives on the comparison list.
The Last Word
When someone mentions external hard drive of 1TB or larger normally people think of a bulky black storage. WD My Passport changes that completely. It is a good looking, well cased with good durability hard drive that one can carry in his pocket. The pricing is good and if you look at the whole package of design, durability, ease in portability, performance and pricing, it's makes it a good package with value for money.
