UPI Touches A Record High Of 782 Crore Transactions In December, Reveals Data

The government of India has been aiming for paperless payment since the government first introduced demonetisation in 2016

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has touched the transaction record of 782 crores in December 2022 and totalled Rs 12.82 lakh crore, also a record high. This has been stated in an official data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the regulatory authority for retail digital payments in India.

The government of India has been aiming for paperless payment since the government first introduced demonetisation in 2016. According to the data, payments via UPI crossed the Rs 12 lakh crore mark in October 2022.

In November, UPI recorded 730.9 crore transactions worth Rs 11.90 lakh crore. In December, the volume of transactions was up 71 per cent and the value of transactions was up 55 per cent. The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) touched the transaction record of 782 crores in December and totalled Rs 12.82 lakh crore, also a record high.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the UPI and wrote, “I like how you’ve brought out the rising popularity of UPI. I laud my fellow Indians for embracing digital payments. They’ve shown remarkable adaptability to tech and innovation.”
