You can donate an eye, but you cannot donate vision. It is the vision that aids development. This was stated by the Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday. Gadkari was addressing a session on "E-mobility, vehicles and future mobility" at the day two of the UP Global Investors Summit here in Lucknow.

Addressing the gathering that included investors investing in the EV sector in UP, Gadkari said that UP has become an ideal state for investment and the EV Policy of the Yogi Adityanath government only aids to this. “We import fuel worth Rs 16 lakh crore. But we need to become a nation that does not import fuel, but exports it. While green fuel has the potential to do so, UP as a state has the highest potential to achieve this goal,” said Gadkari.

Taking a dig at the increasing air pollution in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, Gadkari said the transport department contributes to 40 per cent of this air pollution. “This is why there is a strong need to make policies that promote Electric mobility and green fuel. If we start having EVs in heavy vehicles, it will bring down the cost of road construction and we will be able to make better roads and highways at a lesser cost,” said Gadkari.

The union minister also spoke about expanding the automobile industry in the country. “Currently, the automobile industry in India has a turnover of Rs 7.8 lakh crore. Every big name in the industry is present in India and we have been exporting two wheelers as well. We need to expand this industry to Rs 15 lakh crore and this makes it a golden opportunity for this sector to invest in UP,” Gadkari said.

Earlier, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also addressed the gathering. He said that Electric mobility is the future of mobility. UP has already created an infrastructure that is suitable for the investors to invest in UP and the EV policy by the government provides all support.

The CM further said that the country’s highest concentration of EVs is in UP as e-rickshaws. He added that to work towards environment sustainability, it is important to promote EV ecosystem.
