UK PM Liz Truss Appoints Indian-Origin Suella Braverman As Home Minister

Braverman, who had initially stood against Truss in the election of Conservative Party leader, had given his support to Truss instead of former finance minister and Indian-origin Rishi Sunak after his exit.

United Kingdom's newly elected Prime Minister Liz Truss has decided to appoint Indian-origin Suella Braverman as Home Minister. Along with this, he has announced appointment to the top posts of his cabinet.

Braverman, who had initially stood against Truss in the election of Conservative Party leader, had given his support to Truss instead of former finance minister and Indian-origin Rishi Sunak after his exit.

42-year-old Suela Braverman, who belongs to Goa and Tamil heritage, has received her reward in the form of the post of Home Minister. She will replace Priti Patel, who submitted her resignation to outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday.

UK's newly appointed Home Minister Suella Braverman is the mother of two children. She is the daughter of Uma Fernandes who is of Tamil origin and Christie Fernandes of Goa origin. Her mother immigrated to Britain from Mauritius, while her father immigrated there from Kenya in the 1960s.

Apart from this, Therese Coffey has been made Deputy Prime Minister and Kwasi Quarteng as Finance Minister in the top team of Truss. James Cleverly has been given the charge of the foreign ministry. Wendy Morton has been appointed Parliamentary Minister to the Treasury and becomes the first Tory chief whip.
