Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Twitter, revealed on Friday that the social media platform will soon begin compensating verified content creators for ads in their replies.

This move could be aimed at addressing Twitter's struggles in retaining advertisers, following layoffs and concerns about ad placement. Musk disclosed that the initial payment block would amount to approximately USD 5 million.

"Note, the creator must be verified, and only ads served to verified users count," Musk tweeted, highlighting the eligibility criteria for content creators.

As the owner of Twitter, Musk has been actively exploring avenues to enhance the platform's revenue generation. Back in March, he had said that Twitter generates around 5 to 6 cents per hour of user attention and could potentially increase that figure to 15 cents or higher through more relevant and timely advertisements.

This development comes at a significant juncture for Twitter, as the platform welcomes Linda Yaccarino as its newly appointed CEO. Yaccarino, an advertising veteran from NBCUniversal, is expected to bring her expertise to revitalise Twitter's advertising strategies and overall performance.

Twitter's decision to compensate verified content creators for ads in their replies represents a major shift in the company's approach to monetising its user base. By incentivising creators, Twitter aims to attract and retain influential users who can contribute valuable content and engage their followers.
