Social media platform Twitter has banned 54,123 accounts for policy violations between August 26, 2022 through to September 25, 2022.

The reasons for the suspension of accounts were their promotion of terrorism and child sexual exploitation content.

“A vast majority of all accounts that are suspended for the promotion of terrorism and child sexual exploitation are proactively flagged by a combination of technology and other purpose-built internal proprietary tools,” Twitter said in a statement.

The social media network said that it has suspended 52,141 accounts for Child Sexual Exploitation, Non-Consensual Nudity, and similar content. Further, it banned 1,982 accounts for ‘Promotion of Terrorism’.

“Twitter does not tolerate any material that features or promotes child sexual exploitation—whether in Direct Messages or elsewhere throughout the service. This includes media, text, illustrations, or computer-generated images,” Twitter added in its statement.

Between August 26, 2022 through to September 25, 2022, Twitter processed 43 grievances which were appealing Twitter account suspensions. The platform also received 12 requests related to general questions about Twitter accounts during this reporting period.
