Micro-blogging site Twitter banned the account of journalist Rana Ayyub. The action of ban on her Twitter was taken under the Information Technology Act-2000. However, Twitter later lifted the ban on the account of journalist Rana Ayyub. Journalist Rana Ayub has also tweeted in this regard. Now there is no restriction on her Twitter account.

The notice that Ayyub shared with Twitter read, "In order to comply with Twitter's obligations under the local laws of India, we have suspended the following account in India under the country's Information Technology Act, 2000."

The notice sent by Twitter said, "We strongly believe in defending and respecting the voices of those who use our service. If we receive a legal request to remove content from an authorised entity (such law enforcement or government agency), it is our policy to notify account holders."

On the action taken on Rana Ayyub's Twitter account, former CEO of Prasar Bharati, Shashi Shekhar Vempati tweeted, 'This notice from Twitter could be a bug or it could be a delayed response to past incidents.' Last year there was a ban on Shashi Shekhar's account as well.
