Tata Motors Offers Free Services To Zest Customers

With hopes of reviving its fortune in India, Tata Motors, part of the $100-billion Tata Group, is offering doles like 3-year free breakdown services across the country and 3-year zero payment car service. The move is a part of the revival plan charted out by its late managing Director Karl Slym, who had joined Tata Motors to arrest the falling market share of the company in 2012.

The company has high expectations from its recently launched model, Sedan Zest and the soon to be rolled out Bolt.

The company is leaving no stone unturned to bring the customers back to the company’s showrooms and is focusing on improved after sales and better facilities for its dealers across the country

“Most of the companies charge a premium over for providing breakdown services to car owners. We want to make sure that our customers are care free once they buy our car. We will provide our services even at highways, free of cost,” said Amit Sagar, National Sales head- North and West, Passenger Vehicle Unit.

Tata Motors launched Zest-its first model in four years-last week, in the price range of  Rs 4.6 lakh.

Analysts feel that the move is good but is not enough, “Yes, this initiative will help the company but Tata Motors need far bigger thrust on the emotive branding of its cars,” said Pradeep Saxena, Executive director, TNS Automotive.

As part of its revival strategy, Tata Motors plans to launch two new vehicles every year until 2020. The Zest will be followed by the Bolt hatchback later this year.

The compact sedan Zest competes with the established brands like Maruti D’zire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent.

Breakdown or roadside assistance cost depends on the age of the car and the number of services expected. For example, Honda's roadside assistance costs 1,750 in the first year, and increases to Rs 6000 in the fifth year. Some companies charge on the number of services a customer’s wishes to take in a year. Same city assistance costs around Rs 1,000 for an year.

For the periodical service, the companies charge for automobile oil and replacement all types of parts. However Tata Motors will charge only for the rubber parts replacement.
