Airbus awarded Tata Advanced Systems a contract to make cargo and bulk cargo doors on Wednesday.

Tata Advanced Systems will manufacture these doors for the Airbus A320neo family at a new facility in Hyderabad as part of the deal.

Airbus presently purchases USD 735 million in components and services from over 100 Indian suppliers each year.

“Today, critical technologies and systems are designed, manufactured and maintained in India for every Airbus commercial aircraft and every Airbus helicopter,” the company said in a press release.

In September of last year, India signed a nearly Rs 21,000-crore deal with Airbus Defence and Space to buy 56 C295 transport planes to replace the IAF's ageing Avro-748 planes under a project that will see a private firm manufacture military planes in India for the first time.

The Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA) granted regulatory clearance for the ambitious plan.

According to the agreement, Airbus will deliver the first 16 aircraft in 'fly-away' condition from its final assembly line in Seville, Spain within four years, and the subsequent 40 aircraft will be manufactured and assembled in India by Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) as part of the two companies' industrial partnership.

The project will unlock the potential for cutting-edge design, component manufacturing, aircraft assembly, and services capabilities across the value chain, completely addressing the Government of India's stated goal of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (self-sufficient India) in defence manufacturing.

“Today, Airbus supports nearly 10,000 jobs in India through our supply chain. This figure is expected to increase to around 15,000 by 2025. Furthermore, the C295 military aircraft programme will result in the establishment of 25,000 direct and indirect jobs over a 10-year period,” according to Airbus.
