Tulsi Tanti, founder and managing director of Suzlon Energy and one of the first movers in India's renewable energy space, passed away on 1 October after a cardiac arrest.

“With profound sadness, we inform you of the untimely demise of Shri Tulsi R.Tanti, the Founder, the Chairman & Managing Director, and one of the promoters of Suzlon Energy Limited (the “Company") on 1st October 2022. Shri Tanti suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away the same day," the company said in an exchange filing.

“In this difficult time, the Company continues to be supported by its highly experienced board of directors and senior management who are both able and committed to take Shri Tanti’s legacy forward and realise his vision for the Company,” the company added.

Tanti was in Ahmedabad on Saturday for a media briefing to announce the opening of the company’s right issue worth Rs 1,200 crore on 11 October.

“Suzlon Energy plans to repay its debt and reduce its interest liabilities using the fund, to meet working capital needs and deploy the rest of the fund for corporate requirements,” Tanti told the media.

Tanti was also the chairman of the Renewable Energy Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association.

Tanti revolutionised the wind energy business in India by starting in 1995, at a time when the global wind energy market was dominated by international players and characterised by expensive and complicated technologies, unviable for traditional businesses.
