Congress lawmaker Manish Tewari has asked the government to immediately halt all flights into and out of China due to the escalating number of Covid cases there.

"Given the grave COVID-19 situation in China, the government must immediately ban all flights to and from China. Given the increase in the US, Japan, and South Korea as well as the potential for the emergence of a new lethal variant, India should think about restoring COVID-19 guidelines," the Congress leader tweeted.

Dr. Sangita Reddy, the managing director of Apollo Hospitals, also urged the government to move quickly to implement our policy regulating air travel to and from China.

"There is no reason for public fear regarding the rise in COVID-19 cases in China given India's substantial COVID Vaccines programme with efficacious vaccines. Having stated that, inertia has no place in the world,"  Dr. Sangita Reddy tweeted.

As only Omicron Sublineages BA.2.75, BA.5, BQ.1, and XBB are now present in China, according to Covid Data Analyst Vijayanand, the crisis in China won't have any effects on India.
