Sudha Murty, Zakir Hussain Among Padma Awardees; Mulayam Singh Yadav Awarded Padma Vibhushan Posthumously

This year, Indian President Draupadi Murmu has approved 106 Padma Awards, seven of which are posthumous awardees

The list of Padma awardees, which was announced on Wednesday, included the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation Sudha Murty, late Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, Kumar Mangalam Birla

Centre government has awarded Murty for social work and Kumar Mangalam Birla in the field of trade and industry. 

The list comprises six Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri awards. Nineteen of the awardees are women. There are seven posthumous awardees. 

Other Padma Vibhushan awardees are former External Affairs Minister and former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna (Public Affairs), tabla maestro Zakir Hussain (Art) and Srinivas Vardhan (Science and Engineering).

Meanwhile, PM Modi took to Twitter and wrote, "Congratulations to those who have been conferred the Padma Awards. India cherishes their rich and varied contributions to the nation and their efforts to enhance our growth trajectory."

Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Modi government continues the tradition of honouring the real heroes in society who have brought about tangible changes in their chosen fields.

"Congratulations to all those who have been conferred the Padma Awards 2023. PM @narendramodi Ji continues the tradition of honouring the real heroes in society who have brought about tangible changes in their chosen fields for the better. The nation rewards the changemakers," Amit Shah said in a tweet.
