On an interesting note, the State Bank of India (SBI) in a research report said that crime rate and consumption of alcohol and tobacco products have decreased in states where more Jan Dhan accounts have been opened.

The report cited the reason behind this could be Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-mobile (JAM) trinity, which has helped in better channelising of government subsidies and helped in curbing the unproductive expenditure such as alcohol and tobacco expenses in rural and remote areas.
