Chief minister M K Stalin has written a request to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his help in securing the release of all the 28 fishermen arrested this year till date and the fishing trawlers seized by the Sri Lankan navy.

“The arrests and violent attacks on Indian fishermen are taking place in full strength despite the diplomatic initiatives taken by the government of India.

The Sri Lankan navy is repeatedly violating the historic fishing rights of Tamil Nadu fishermen in Palk Bay, this must end permanently through concerted efforts, CM said.

As of now, 104 fishing boats of Tamil Nadu are under Sri Lanka’s custody and five that were released are yet to be repatriated back to India. Further, 16 Indian fishermen are already in Sri Lankan prisons, Stalin stated.
