Having completed her B.Tech from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Sakshi Tulsian was not one to take the conventional route of working in MNCs in the long run. Coming from a background of entrepreneurs, she was always keen on making her mark through her chosen field. While she did work with reputed companies like Websanchaar Solutions, Sapient Corporation, among others, she went ahead to launch her own restaurant. It was when Sakshi and her husband Ashish, who is also the founder of POSist, went to automate their restaurant, but found a dearth of platforms regarding the same, that the idea of POSist came about.

Talking about their journey, Sakshi says, “The idea came up when Ashish and I were looking for a point of sale (POS) solution for our own restaurant, only to realise that there was no product back in 2012 in India that could fit our needs. While the restaurant business was financially rewarding, it was extremely demanding on the operations front. At that time, both Ashish and I were also running our own startups. Using our own knowledge, we decided to create a point-ofsale product to manage our back-of-the-house operations. Soon enough, other restaurant owners in the vicinity took notice of the product, and that’s when POSist was born in 2012.”

Today, in its ninth year of functioning, POSist caters to 9,000 customers in more than 100 cities and 30 countries. They also hold the title H of first complete online POS solution for restaurants. Some of their key functions include billing, inventory, wastage management, accounting sofware, vendor management, among others.

They work on the motto of ‘Training Free’ and ‘Easy to Use’ scalable solutions. Their client portfolio includes all kinds of food businesses, from restaurant chains to standalone businesses. Some of their notable clients are Taco Bell, Lord of The Drinks, Mad Over Donuts, Haagen-Dazs, Giani Ice-creams, among other notable names. Their business model deals with not only customers at the frontend, but also works towards automating back-end operations.

The path to success has not been a bed of roses. Talking about some of the issues entrepreneurs face, Sakshi says, “One of the biggest challenges that any entrepreneur faces is burnout. As an entrepreneur, it becomes important to remind yourself why you started down this road every day to keep yourself motivated and energised.”

They also intend to expand their business in 2021, both in terms of the geography, as well as total customer base. The focus is on doubling down their efforts in the Middle East, UK and the US. Today nearly 60 per cent of their customers are global.

As countries are opening up, they are seeing greater interest from restaurant operators for a scalable tech platform to help them improve their bottom line. In terms of the total customer base, the target is to cross 15,000 customers by the end of this year.
