Skipper Bags BSNL’s 4G Contract Worth Rs 2,570 crore

The scope of work includes infrastructure components installation along with the supply and construction of ground-based telecom towers

Power transmission and distributor structure manufacturer Skipper on Friday bagged a contract worth Rs 2,570 crore from BSNL for setting up telecom towers.

 The scope of work includes infrastructure components installation along with the supply and construction of ground-based telecom towers. Skipper will be setting up 3,350 tower position sites mainly across Rajasthan and Odisha.

The contract also includes 5 years of operation and maintenance services for villages that are not covered by 4G saturation programs.

Complete order execution will come under Skipper's capital expenditures and operating expenses model under the usage of the homegrown 4G stack.

The government will fund the project under the Universal Service Obligation Fund, a Rs 55,000 crore cash reserve with an aim to provide connectivity to remote and rural sectors of the country.

Meanwhile, the private telecom operators are preparing for the 5G cellular rollout, BSNL country’s major telecom firm is yet to launch its 4G services

Reports suggest that BSNL’s 4G rollout could stretch till March 2023 and the telecom company will start positioning its 4G services in all metro cities and subsequently in rest of the country.
