Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar and his family are involved in illegal land acquisitions in Lavasa, India's 'first planned city in Maharashtra, alleged former IPS officer Y P Singh in Mumbai on 18 October. The Lavasa project is built on illegally acquired land and it was started when Pawar was the chief minister of Maharashtra, alleged Singh at a press conference. He claimed that the 2,348 acres for the project were acquired without auction and this violate Supreme Court guidelines.
Sharad Pawar on his part, dismissed these reports as baseless.
News channel NDTV reported that Singh accused Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar, a former deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, bent rules for the Lavasa township. Singh claimed the Pawars met Maharashtra government officials in a guesthouse in Lavasa to conspire for the the scam. He claimed to have minutes of the Pawars' meeting with government officials.
Singh also alleged activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal had been sitting on evidence against Sharad Pawar of his involvement in a "mega irrigation scam". Kejriwal ignored serious evidence against Sharad Pawar and instead made some "frivolous" accusations against BJP chief Nitin Gadkari at his press conference in Delhi on Wednesday, he claimed.
