Celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor along with Wonderchef appliances promoter Ravi Saxena have announced an investment of up to $2 million (about Rs 13 crore) for an undisclosed stake in ZuperMeal, a mobile based aggregator that provides home-cooked meals.

They have joined hands with two international partners for the investment.

The two-month-old Mumbai based food tech startup has enrolled home-makers to provide authentic home cooked meals targeting young professionals and bachelors. The company has roped in over 150 homemakers to do the cooking, and provides customers with a menu and fulfils deliveries. Currently, the company is fulfilling 60 to 70 with a profit margin of 15%.

Kapoor believes that this area is quite interesting as it provides the opportunity to boost food processing at the household level through ZuperMeal.

Prior to Wonderchef, Ravi Saxena has built up companies like Sodexo, Gloria Jean’s Coffee and the Yellow Chilli Restaurant franchise that Sanjeev Kapoor is affiliated with.

Perhaps the best known culinary face in India, Kapoor also has a stake in food dedicated channel, Food Food that was launched in 2011 as a joint venture between him, Malaysia-based Astro Overseas Limited and Mogae Consultants.

ZuperMeal plans to use the funds to upgrade their technology, expand their network, acquire talent and create brand awareness.
