Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has been sent to judicial custody till August 22 in a money laundering case. The 60-year-old Sena leader came to be arrested by the Enforcement Directorate about a week ago in the Patra Chawl land scam case.

The central agency had stated that he had paid no heed to summons for investigation on two occasions before that.

His arrest came as a shocker to the Shiv Sena, just weeks after the toppling of the Uddhav Thackeray government in the state owing to Eknath Shinde's act of rebellion.

Raut's arrest took place at when Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav is facing a stalemate with Team Shinde in a competition over the symbol of the party.

On Saturday, Raut's wife, Varsha, joined the ED probe. She gave appearance before the ED officials in Mumbai to record her statement.

Raut was initially arrested by the probe agency on July 31 and was earlier remanded in ED’s custody till August 8 by a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court. On Monday, as he was brought to the PMLA court, he was sent to judicial custody.

Judicial custody is spent in jail.

On the day he was arrested, the probe agency had claimed that cash worth over ₹10 lakh was seized from his home. However, the Raut's brother said the money was owned by the party.

On the day of his arrest, he remembered Balasaheb Thackeray and said he won't quit Shiv Sena.
