Samsung Electronics is reportedly in talks for its plan to start laptop manufacturing in India from the next month, according to a media report on Tuesday.

The report said the company’s actions are likely to boost the Centre’s push on domestic manufacturing for which it is developing a mix of financial incentives, tax breaks and import curbs.

Samsung has not officially confirmed the fabrication.

The electronic major’s Greater Noida factory, now dedicated to mobile phone production will be the manufacturing unit for the company’s laptop the report added.

It said the factory would be expanded by an annual capacity of producing 60,000 to 70,000 units of laptops.

If the plan succeeds, Samsung will be the earliest foreign hardware maker without a local laptop manufacturing capacity to initiate production after the Centre imposed import curbs on laptops, tablets, personal computers (PCs), servers and other ultra-small form devices, starting from November 2024.
