Prophet Remarks Row: Ranchi Protest Goes Violent; Policemen Injured

The protests demanding suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s arrest over remarks against Prophet Muhammad has erupted in several places of India on Friday. The ongoing protest turned violent in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi.

When the police lathi-charged the crowd, stones were pelted by the crowd in response, resulting injuries to several police personnel.

Earlier, members of Muslim community had taken to the streets to protest against Nupur Sharma’s statements. All the shops in the area were closed. The police had to air fire to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the mass protests over the Prophet remarks row have occured in other parts of the country as well - including Delhi, Kolkata, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Prayagraj.
