Paving The Way Towards A Connected Future With Space Teleinfra

In a recently concluded interview with BW Businessworld, Dolly Grover, CHRO at Space Teleinfra discussed a wide array of topics exploring from Company’s prime offering to its people, who are their greatest strength, the culture and its core values.

Q1 Tell us about your company. What is your primary offering? 

Space Teleinfra aspires to become the leading Digital Connectivity Infrastructure company and a market leader in all the segments that it operates in, notably In-building Solutions (IBS) & Outdoor Small Cells (SC).  We are currently the market leaders in the IBS segment having a dominant share in the country’s underground metro stations & airports while becoming the country’s fastest-growing IP-1 provider of end-to-end Digital Connectivity Infrastructure Solutions.  We have over 2000 project sites including several marquee sites spread across leading metro stations, airports, government & private hospitals, corporate buildings, hotels, shopping malls and residential complexes. Simultaneously, we are working on expanding our solutions to emerge as a trusted single-window digital infrastructure partner enabling seamless voice & data connectivity to the customers of both our Network operators as well as realtors, developers, and government agencies.

In the next five years, while the opportunity for IBS is expected to grow almost three-fold, in the SC segment there will be exponential growth with the number of small cells almost touching the number of towers, given the current data explosion and the imminent 5G launch. Further, riding on our high market share in the IBS segment, solid and experienced management, and the operational team as well as aggressive business plans, we aspire to scale up our footprint, scale, and market share multi-fold in the next few years. We are building an organization that is reliable and most trusted by all our stakeholders.

Q2 Can you share some insights about the culture and value system of your organization?

As an organization, we have a core belief that to build a sustainable business the focus must be on the ‘how’ of doing business. Defining what values we stand for as an organization is fundamental to us and we aptly call it ‘ORBIT’ (Ownership, Respect & Trust, Being the Best, Integrity, and Teamwork). Our culture is built around the pillars of Care, Connect & Collaboration with the underlying framework of our Core Values ‘ORBIT’ along with the Ethics Code and Governance defining how to work with all our stakeholders.

Being a start-up, the ability to rally the team around a common sense of purpose and to communicate clearly and effectively the potential of co-creating something exciting is the key to the vision we have carved out for ourselves. Having said that, a start-up is a start-up and needs a constant stream of positivity, passion, and a can-do approach and attitude. It is all about consistency in the passion, zeal, and drive needed to work towards building an organization that will indeed be our dream organization. The leadership team at Space Teleinfra recognizes this and all our efforts have been around creating an ecosystem and a mindset that will help deliver our dream of building a best-in-class Passive Telecom Infrastructure brand in India which is delineated through our tagline ‘Connecting Millions where they Live, Work and Travel’.

Our journey is evolving and progressively moving toward building an equitable & inclusive Culture leading us on the pathway of becoming an ‘Employer of Choice’. We have worked on building a culture of trust in the organization, mainly, by working on the three pillars of competence (our ability to drive results), Integrity (honest and transparent in our approach), and Benevolence (concern for the wellbeing of employees and all our stakeholders). This has been evident in the last two years with the pandemic situation, wherein we as an organization supported each employee and even our customers.

In our ability to drive the larger agenda of the Organization, we were able to convert the pandemic adversity into an opportunity and took the bold approach of taking a calculated risk at this time while ensuring business continuity, safety, and security of our employees and simultaneously making our organization future-ready by promptly adopting a three-dimensional strategy to:

a) ensure our employees were safe, calm, and positively engaged through impactful HR interventions under the umbrella of ‘Care.Connect’ initiatives touching all employees every day in various ways like multiskilling and learning initiatives – LinkedIn Learning, Pathshala – online functional training, engagement activities in line with motivational talks, connecting with each employee on their welfare and supporting them completely in the challenging times. The flexibility provided with Hybrid style of working ie ‘Work from Home’ + ‘Work from Office’, Hybrid style of Interfacing i.e. ‘Physical’ + ‘Virtual’, whether with Customers or Employees.

b) ensure 24*7 service ensuring a >99.99% service uptime which was really appreciated by our customers. Reaching out to all our customers and sharing our intent to support them in the tough times. 

c)  be Sustainable and Future-ready by focusing on timely billing as well as collections and maintaining a comfortable cash position, by investing in hiring future leaders, ensuring higher work efficiency through automation & digitization and launching a new business vertical in line with our strategic plan.

Q3 How would you define your people satisfaction and culture when it comes to employees?

Being an employee-centric organization, it has been our endeavour that we rally around a common purpose which is reiterated at various forums by the involved and connected leadership team. It’s all about keeping the message simple which a technician down the level can also understand and relate with. We have worked to formulate discipline around this through various communication platforms mentioned above which cater to connecting the dots with each employee of the organization like regular town hall forums, AOP cascades, connecting one on one with the employee, Skip level meetings, Circle Mentoring by the leadership team, ‘Swagatam’ our onboarding program, appreciation and recognition framework and so on. We firmly believe that each employee is unique and contributes to the Organizational growth basis of the role they perform. It is our responsibility to provide a great employee experience with frequent ‘good days’, which is all about connecting with them at their level, enabling and empowering them to perform to their potential and providing the environment where they are happy to come to work every day. 

It is important for us as an organization to provide the enabling environment which helps us attract and retain talent. Our organization believes in ‘Being the Best’ in whatever we do each day, and it is also one of our core values in ORBIT. For us, an organization success is all about a ‘Leap Ahead’ with ‘Thinking Bigger’ with respect to our growth and performance, ‘Executing Better’ with respect to our processes and its discipline, and  ‘Getting Stronger’ with respect to people connect and culture, which has been our this year’s AOP theme - a mantra for all employees to live, breathe and execute flawlessly ensuring we live to our own and shareholders’ expectations. Q4 How does it feel to be ranked in the GPTW listing as top 50 Best Workplaces for the year 2022?
