Parul Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, a constituent college of Parul University and recognised by National Medical Commission, on Aug 1, 2022 announced its association with Wolters Kluwer. As a part of this collaboration, Wolters Kluwer has deployed its Clinical Decision Support Systems. The three products that have been deployed by the institute are UpToDate, UpToDate Advanced and Lexicomp.

Medical education is unique due to accuracy of information required, rapidly evolving competences needed, and alternative methods of education used. Medical professionals across all levels – undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional development – have the need for tailored education and enhanced skills to improve healthcare delivery. A clinical decision support system (CDSS) analyses evidence-based health information to assist healthcare providers in making decisions and improving patient care.

Parul University has chosen UpToDate and Lexicomp as a partner of choice for its institute. Wolters Kluwer will conduct regular workshops to equip the students and faculties on the effective use of these products for better patient care.

The clinical decision support systems (CDSS) provide clinicians with verified information within a few clicks, facilitating faster diagnosis. With CDSS, doctors can bookmark topics for easy access to information when they need it. It improves patient outcomes and results in better quality health care. A CDSS alerts the doctors to potential problems that can be easily resolved. It supports clinicians while making complex clinical decisions.

CDSS is intended to enhance care quality, prevent errors or adverse events, and enable medical students to be more efficient in the years to come and will equip them with the best outcome. CDSS for medical education will find its unique position in education practice in the years to come. Developing effective solutions to reduce this disruption in medical education, may be accomplished through online training and virtual clinical experience followed by hands-on training in a safe environment.

By providing students with comprehensive medical education and sufficient clinical experience through CDSS tools like UpToDate, we can help prevent medical errors.
