Remember when you purchased a product that attracted you, took it home but couldn't get it open. Then, if you manage to gaze, cut or open, it won't close as expected. It's always irritating and desperate, especially if you use a knife or other tools to cut such rigid packaging.

According to studies, 66% of consumers go for a new product just because they feel irritated with the packaging. So, while creating the packaging, it's essential to avoid the typical packaging design mistakes to keep your customers focused on what your brand does finest.

Messy execution can entirely discredit the impact you intended to accomplish with branded packaging. Don’t make your product packaging give a false message that's contradictory to the methods you are expecting to delegate your brand.

Let’s discuss some of the common mistakes that are seen in the market that can make your brand unprofessional or inhibit the user experience while unboxing the product:

Over Packaging:

When you use excessive or over-packaging that fails to contribute a good consumer experience, you're not only dissipating time, money and materials but also possibly degrading the standard of their unboxing experience.

The less complicated a product packaging is, the more appreciation you’ll get from the customers. In fact, they dislike the packaging that is improvident and bulky neither stores as it takes up excess shelf space. Therefore, optimise your packaging by diminishing the interior space and utilising the least amount of fillers possible.

Wrong Materials:
Your packaging material should be artistically pleasant and applicable. For example, you order your favourite food online, also you need it hot and fresh, but due to the inappropriate materials, it loses its essence, and the foods also leak due to the improper selection.

Because of the low-quality materials you used in the packaging, it fails even before reaching customers. It will also destroy the expectation they had regarding your brand. So, opt for a proper packaging material that is the best for your product.

Difficult to Open:
If your customer needs any tool or uses their teeth to open your packaging, then consider this as one of your major failures. It's doesn't matter how beautiful your product package looks; if they find it difficult to open, it's the most that make them frustrated. You can use perforations, marks, or connectors at an opening point.

Generic Designs:
The core purpose of packaging is to provide a platform that enhances your audience and makes them unique from competitors. Having an uninteresting design that doesn't help your product differentiate from competitors makes your brand to your competitors. So, create a distinct design that goes with your brand's image.

Uneven white Space:
Considering a white space in your packaging is the fundamental element of a balanced aesthetic in your entire design. A messy flood of colours might give a vibrant glance at the first look, but it is really a packaging design mistake that needs to be avoided. Incorporating a white space that's even and symmetrical will help attain a balance of contrast in your entire packaging design.
