Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Rishi Sunak  on Sunday  had fruitful discussions in which they discussed their bilateral strategic cooperation, including the status of the FTA negotiations between India and the UK.

The two leaders also agreed to deepen their bilateral ties in a variety of fields, including trade, investment, science and technology.

According to the statement, leaders decided to expand collaboration in a variety of fields, including commerce and investment, research and technology, higher education, and interpersonal ties.

Since January of last year, India and the UK have been negotiating an FTA in an effort to reach a comprehensive agreement that is anticipated to greatly improve their current trade relationship, which is said to be worth approximately 34 billion pounds in 2022.

The ninth round of India-UK free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations was completed by the two countries last month after thorough discussions in a number of policy areas.

Harjinder Kang, who served as the UK's chief negotiator for the FTA, was just named the nation's new trade commissioner to South Asia and deputy high commissioner for western India, both of which positions are situated in Mumbai.
