PM Modi to announce Kerala's rail project worth Rs 1,900 crore after the inauguration of the State’s Vande Bharat Express on Tuesday.
The event is being hosted at Central Stadium in Palayam wherein the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala Sivagiri and Kozhikode will be laid, a total project of Rs 1,140 crore.
According to an official statement, the project is aimed to design the future requirement and will support the next 40 years' needs. It includes developing the station with an aesthetic interior, improved ambience, landscaped exteriors and other airport-like facilities. To ease the arrival and departure, separate corridors will be raised along with multi-level vehicle parking and multi-mode connectivity.
The PM will also lay the foundation stone for the Thiruvananthapuram area’s comprehensive development at a cost of Rs 156 crore. The key development of the project includes the development of Trivandrum’s satellite terminal Kochuveli and the construction of the new additional terminal at Nemom for the handling of train services both towards Ernakulam and beyond, along with Nagercoil and Madurai direction.
The two additional platforms and one additional stabling line at Kochuveli will help to manage the handling of additional trains from Kochuveli Terminal.
Further, to increase the sectional speed of the Thiruvananthapuram to the Shoranur section, a distance of 326.83 km, Modi will lay the foundation stone at a cost of Rs 381 crore. This will help to commute faster connecting to the major destinations in Kerala, said the statement.
Modi will also consider the electrified section on the Palakkad-Palani-Dindigul stretch; the 179 km stretch, commissioned at a cost of Rs 242 crore. These inter-state interlinking of railways will help to save time for traction change for all traffic between Dindigul in Tamil Nadu and Palakkad in Kerala.
Electrification will boost seamless connectivity and faster access to all pilgrimage and tourism destinations thus operating environment-friendly transportation and attaining zero carbon emissions.
