PM Modi, Korean President Review Progress Of Special Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Korea's Indo-Pacific strategy and the importance attached to India in it

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in Hiroshima on the sidelines of the G-7 summit and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of trade and investment, high technology, IT hardware manufacturing, defence, semiconductors and culture.

The leaders noted that both countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year and agreed to enhance their cooperation further.

"President Yoon Suk Yeol appreciated the Prime Minister’s leadership of the G-20 and conveyed his support. Prime Minister looked forward to President Yoon's visit to India for the G20 leaders’ summit in September this year," PMO statement read.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed Korea's Indo-Pacific strategy and the importance attached to India in it. The leaders also had a positive exchange of views on regional developments, it added. 

Earlier, Modi on Saturday met Vietnamese PM Pham Minh Chinh in Hiroshima and agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and deepen bilateral trade and investment ties.

They also discussed opportunities in the fields of defence, building resilient supply chains, energy, science and technology, human resource development, culture & people to people ties.

The leaders had a positive exchange of views on regional developments. They also discussed ASEAN and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

PM Modi briefed Chinh about India's G-20 presidency and the primacy given by India to highlight the perspectives and concerns of the global south.
