Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo on Friday in New Delhi.

Later, Prime Minister's Office tweeted, "US Secretary of Commerce @SecRaimondo had a fruitful meeting with PM @narendramodi yesterday."

According to officials, the US is "keen to take India's telecom stack for 5G," indicating a desire to invest in the country's expanding telecom sector.

The official made the announcement after Raimondo met with PM Narendra Modi for more than half an hour on Friday evening. According to the official, Raimondo told the PM that the US and India were entering a period of even more intense cooperation and that Modi told the visiting US commerce secretary that when we think of AI, we need to think of “America India” in addition to artificial intelligence.

Earlier, Raimondo met Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal. She said that India is a "trusted" technology partner of the US, and this partnership has the potential to extend beyond semiconductors to the entire electronics supply chain, in contrast to China, with whom the US has reservations about sharing critical technology.
