Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched India’s 6G mission which was envisioned to create an initiative for the next generation of tech in the country. The official 6G testbed project will allow research on new network techniques to take place.

The Modi government has made a Bharat 6G project and appointed a council to look up to it. According to the official data, India is the second largest market for telecom in the global space with 1.2 billion digital subscribers.

While speaking at the event, PM Modi said that India is the most connected democracy in the world where a vast number of e-authentication and UPI transactions occur on a daily basis.

Last year in November, the government constituted a 22-member innovation group chaired by telecom secretary K Rajaraman to create a plan for the 6G mission.

The testbed is being co-developed by the many Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), including those in Guwahati and Madras.
