PLI Scheme: Govt Picks 67 Entries For Speciality Steel To Draw Rs 42,500 Cr Investment

The central government has selected a total of 67 applications under the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for speciality steel to attract Rs 42,500 crore investment. 

The Ministry of Steel in a statement said that this will lead to the capacity addition of up to 26 million tonnes with an employment generation capacity of 70,000.

PLI scheme for speciality steel was approved by the union cabinet on 22 July 2021, with a five-year financial outlay of Rs 6,322 crore to promote the manufacturing of speciality steel in India by attracting capital investment and generating employment. 

"A total of 79 applications were received from 35 small and large steel-making companies, committing to the investment of Rs 46,000 crore and downstream capacity addition of 28 million tonnes by 2030," the statement added.
