Fake marksheet, certificates and employment letters are becoming a common problem for employers. A study by AuthBridge found out that one out of six employee lie in their CVs. Here is what the experts believe about background checking:
Rajiv Gusain, HR Head at Aksh Optifibre Ltd.
It is difficult for us to select one candidate out of many that's why we do multiple rounds of interview to understand more about the candidate, both on professional and personal front. During the interview, we ask similar questions to all candidates to understand about their mental capabilities, understanding of work culture.
Subramanyam S, Founder and CEO of Ascent HR
Gig economy is gaining ground and when fresher’s are taken into employment for the first time through flexi-staffing, the emphasis would be more on identity verification and less on background checks which is more relevant for lateral hires. Having said that the large enterprises do prefer background checks for fresher’s too which is a drain on the company without quality results. Health Check of a fresher is rarely an issue while his address check would be irrelevant given the fact that many youngsters come from different regions to cities for employment. The new trend is to limit to Adhaar Verification for identity and use BGV only for laterals with some experience
Manish Choudhary, SVP, Global Innovation & MD India Operations, Pitney Bowes
I don’t think we have anything unique in selection process. Our interview process is very rigorous; candidates go through 7 rounds of tests, where we look for a variety of parameters. I think the 7 stages of the interview process separates out anybody who we think is not a genuine candidate. The important thing is the people we hire should be goal-oriented, motivated and have the right attitude.
Vikram Chopra, CEO of CARS24
Hiring the right talent for the right job is one of our core focus areas. In addition to a well-defined and robust hiring process, our human resources and talent acquisition teams pay close attention to every application received by CARS24. Our subject matter experts interview the candidates to check knowledge and experience levels. We have strict background verification (pre and post-hiring) to confirm the work experience mentioned by the candidates. We also welcome referrals to minimize the possibilities of any kind of recruitment discrepancies.
Gopal Devanahalli, CEO, MeritTrac Services
Discrepancies in resumes can be in grades, employment dates, job titles & technical skills. This may lead to unqualified or less qualified candidates getting shortlisted for jobs. Today it is possible using digital technologies to identify some discrepancies by checking with external digital sources like ITRACES, Social Media etc. However, all discrepancies may not be identified. Good pre-interview automated assessments can not only check for the fitment for the job but also point out mismatches between claims in the resume and the performance on the assessments.
