Nvidia and MediaTek have struck a strategic partnership aimed at harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and accelerated computing.
The collaboration unveiled at the recent COMPUTEX press conference, brings together MediaTek's expertise in connectivity and multimedia with Nvidia's industry-leading position in AI and computing.
The CEOs of both companies, Rick Tsai of MediaTek and Jensen Huang of Nvidia, expressed their shared vision to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry. Their objective is to design the next generation of intelligent, always-connected vehicles that deliver unparalleled user experiences, enhanced safety features and new connected services across all vehicle segments.
As part of the partnership, MediaTek will develop automotive System-on-Chips (SoCs) and integrate Nvidia's GPU chiplet, which incorporates Nvidia's cutting-edge AI and graphics intellectual property, into the design architecture. These chiplets will be interconnected using an ultra-fast and coherent chiplet interconnect technology, ensuring seamless communication and optimal performance.
MediaTek plans to run Nvidia's suite of software technologies, including the Nvidia DRIVE OS, DRIVE IX, CUDA, and TensorRT, on their new automotive SoCs. This integration will enable connected infotainment systems, in-cabin convenience features, and enhanced safety functions. Automakers will now have access to a wider range of in-vehicle infotainment options on the Nvidia DRIVE platform, providing a transformative experience for both drivers and passengers.
By leveraging Nvidia's expertise in AI, cloud, graphics technology, and software ecosystem, alongside their advanced driver assistance systems, MediaTek aims to enhance their Dimensity Auto platform. This collaboration empowers MediaTek's automotive customers to offer cutting-edge Nvidia RTX graphics and advanced AI capabilities, as well as safety and security features enabled by Nvidia DRIVE software, across all vehicle types.
With the automotive industry increasingly relying on AI and accelerated computing, this partnership between NVIDIA and MediaTek sets a new benchmark. By combining their strengths, the companies aim to provide a comprehensive solution that caters to the evolving demands of the market, delivering intelligent, connected in-cabin solutions that prioritize safety, security, and an unparalleled driving experience.
The partnership also aligns with the projected growth of the automotive semiconductor market, with infotainment and instrument cluster SoCs expected to reach USD 12 billion by 2023, according to Gartner.
