Asia-focused bank Standard Chartered's annual profits rose 19 per cent and the bank said 2009 had started well and was well positioned for a challenging year ahead. Standard Chartered on Tuesday reported a 2008 pretax profit of $4.8 billion, up from $4 billion the year before and up from the average analyst forecast of $4.6 billion, based on a Reuters Estimates poll.The bank said 2009 had started well and its wholesale bank had had a very strong January. Suzlon Energy Ltd said on Tuesday a unit had secured an order to supply 80 wind turbines in China with total power generation capacity of 100 megawatts. The company did not disclose financial details of the transaction. (Reuters)
