Improved rural road infrastructure helped India during the Covid-19 crisis with Agri exports contributing above 23 per cent to India’s total exports, said Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh on Tuesday.

Pointing out the uneven progress of rural road infrastructure in various states, the minister called for Janbhagidari and more transparency in the implementation of various projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

At the 'International Conference on New Technologies and Innovations in Rural Roads', Singh also called for initiating a startup challenge in the area of refilling and binding materials for the rural road infrastructure.

Singh said more than seven lakh km of road length has been laid since 2014. Besides, 3.25 lakh km of roads have been upgraded during the last three years.
