Maximising Impact

Smart internet socialites know the impact a well-timed post can have.  A recent study shows that almost 57 per cent of marketers active on social media use optimisation tools such as Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, Timely or Social Flow to schedule their updates. Some of these are paid, some free.

Scheduling posts saves a lot of time (most influencers do 20-30 posts a day on multiple platforms) and helps in catching target audiences at the most receptive time. It also prevents overloading of content at one go as it spaces out posts evenly through the day.

The same study shows that most influencers have realised the importance of the visual state of the social landscape and, so, post images quite often.

Well, their task just got easier with a new photo-scheduling app hitting the market.  Still in beta, Pixlater allows people to schedule image posts. Linked to Twitter, Flickr and Facebook, the company plans to add the new service to Tumblr, Google+, Pinterest and Instagram soon.

The idea is you spend more time taking photos and less time uploading them as the app does the distribution for you. You can maximise exposure, so to speak. This is a paid app with different rates depending on the volume of upload and storage, though it does come with a 30-day free trial.

Getting organised certainly helps make your social life more interesting!

Shoot Like A Pro

Photo- and video-sharing network Instagram has unveiled an app that allows users to capture high-quality, time-lapse videos even while in motion. The app, Hyperlapse, is available on iOS, but plans are afoot to introduce it on Android soon.  Typically, time-lapse videos are shot with the camera held still, but with the built-in stabilisation technology in Hyperlapse, you can create handheld time-lapse videos that have a high-quality feel to them and almost look cinematic. So, what are you waiting for? Go shoot!

In A Minute
Every minute, there are 2.4 million Google Search queries, 1,157,407 Google Play app downloads, 694 click-to-calls (clicking a number on an advertisement to call directly), according to social tracker Online Social Media.

Cause Goes Viral
The Ice Bucket Challenge, an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on one’s head to promote amyotrophic lateral sclerosis awareness and encourage donations, has gone viral. The New York Times reported that more than 1.2 million videos were shared on Facebook between 1 June and 13 August, and the challenge was mentioned on Twitter more than 2.2 million times since 29 July.
