Maruti Suzuki has launched its much awaited sedan Dzire in India. The sedan is launched at an introductory price of Rs 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The car comes in five body color options- oxford blue, sherwood brown, gallant red, magma grey, silky silver and arctic white.

First Launched in 2008, 13.8 lakh units of Swift Dzire has been sold since then. Dzire had always been the market leader in this segment and with the launch of new Dzire, Maruti Suzuki aims to regain its position.

The new Dzire is taking the market by storm; it has already got more than 30,000 bookings in 11 days at Rs 11,000.

Performance

The new Dzire has same engine of its predecessor. The 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine is tuned for 82 bhp at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 113 Nm at 4200 rpm. Talking about the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine, it is tuned for 74 bhp at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 190Nm at 2000 rpm.

Both engines are available with manual and automatic transmission options. The sedan has fuel economy of 22 kmpl for petrol and 28.4 kmpl for diesel variant. The fuel tank capacity is 42 litres.

The petrol variants have been priced from Rs 5.45 lakh to 8.41 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).

The diesel variants have been priced from Rs 6.45 lakh to 9.41 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).

Features

The Dzire is based on ‘Heartact’ platform with high tensile steel which trimmed down the weight of petrol variant by 85 kgs and diesel variant by 105 kgs. The car has large boot size of 376-litres.

The new Dzire comes with new touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For safety, it comprises standard dual airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist and ISOFIX child seat anchors. The Z variants come with reverse parking sensors.

Dzire sports a new hexagonal grille, reshaped projector headlamps, new bumper and re-designed fog lamps. It has a ground clearance of 170mm, minimum turning radius of 4.8 metres.

The market

The new sedan will compete with the likes of Hyundai Xcent, Volkswagen Ameo, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire Sports and Tata Tigor. Dzire has the best mileage in its category which gives it an edge among others.

Maruti Suzuki made the right move by tweaking the new Dzire as competition in this segment is tough, with launch of new variants by other players like Ford Figo Aspire Sports and the new 2017 Xcent. Also Tata made recent entry in this segment with the launch of new Tigor.

With economy back on track after demonetization, the first quarter of 2017 saw a positive sentiment which means that market for cars is expected to grow in the nation.
