While addressing the council of mayors and deputy mayors of Gujarat BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that this conference has a major role to play in preparing a road map of India's urban development for the next 25 years.

Modi said, "If the relation of the common citizens comes from any system called government, then it comes from Panchayat, Nagar Panchayat, Municipality and Metropolitan Municipality. Hence, discussions are necessary."

While praising BJP, he said that Indian citizens have placed faith in the party for the development of cities for a very long time. It is our responsibility to maintain it continuously and increase it.

"The ideological pattern — Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas is what sets our model apart from others," PM said.

Talking further about development, he said that Till 2014, the metro network in our country was less than 250 Km but now it's more than 775 km.

"People come to the cities on a temporary basis for livelihood, they should get houses on reasonable rent, for this work is going on on a large scale," PM said.

May my city be financially prosperous, known for some product or the other, it should become a centre of attraction for tourism to have its own identity, Modi added and urged mayors to work on those lines.
