Maharashtra Government will reduce VAT on fuel soon, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde informed the State Assembly on Monday. A decision to reduce VAT on fuel will be taken in the state cabinet, Shinde informed the House, while replying to a debate after he won the floor test.

The development comes hours after Shinde won a majority by getting 164 votes in favour during the trust vote in the Maharashtra Assembly today, crossing the majority mark of 144 votes. While the Opposition camp got 99.

Last month, Maharashtra became the third state to reduce the VAT on petrol by Rs 2.08 per litre and on diesel by Rs 1.44 per litre after the centre reduced excise on fuel prices.
