Mahanadi Coalfields Aims To Achieve Target Of 190 MT Of Dry Fuel Production

Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL), one of the eight major subsidiaries of Coal India, is likely to achieve nearly 190 million tonnes of dry fuel production in the current fiscal year. With this, the coal company will record a 13.09 per cent leap, more than 168 million tonnes of production recorded in 2021-22. This was shared in a media report on Monday. 

Addressing the media, the company’s chairman-cum-Managing Director, OP Singh said that the production target for the financial year 2022-23 was 176 million tonnes. However, the company marked 21 per cent ahead target and is expected to reach 190 million tonnes by end of this fiscal. He even added the subsidiary’s target is to achieve 190 million tonnes of coal despatch for financial year 2022-23.

Singh further said MCL will enhance its supply and its target for the financial year 2023-24. The projection is of 200 million tonnes of coal despatch, out of which 80 per cent will contribute to the power sector.

The set target is to support the government’s aim of encouraging commercial coal mining and the profit-making company has already spent Rs 3,922 crore on 11 first-mile connectivity projects, he added. 

He underlined that out of these eight projects that are currently under construction, two have been commissioned while one is yet to be awarded. Meanwhile, the company has 18 operational mines, out of which 15 are open-cast mines while three include underground mines.
