The E5 movement by Paul Dupuis, MD & CEO of Randstad India and former Chairman of HOPE International revolves around leadership and its many facets. Through the five Es — Envision, Express, Excite, Enable and Execute — the author offers the roadmap for outstanding leadership, one that does not just play the game but also changes the way the game is played, thereby creating a new game.

“The world is full of competent managers. These are the people who follow processes and meet deadlines. They run a tight ship and deliver on expectations. They play the game but don’t change the game. Outstanding leaders on the other hand, operate on a different level. They are not satisfied with ‘good’ they constantly search for empty spaces, the opportunities to be a pioneer. These leaders change the game and create a new game,” says the author.

According to Dupuis, outstanding leaders must go beyond the regular and the ordinary to craft a vision that touches the hearts and minds of their team. Many leaders start as underdogs in many situations and their commitment and vision is what takes them forward.

The book emphasises the fact that visionary leaders are dreamers and they are even stronger when they dream with their teams. Game changing leaders embrace the biggest challenges, and they shine most when the storm arrives. An important message the book delivers is: The past is where you learned the lesson, the future is where you apply the lesson

According to Dupuis, stress and frustrations are part and parcel of leadership as things may not work according to their plans all the time. In such stressful situations, he says they should just STOP — S - Stop, T - Think, O - Observe, P – Plan.

The book is a must read for managers, businessmen and entrepreneurs as well as for people from all walks of life for it also contains valuable life lessons.
