Leaked images obtained by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi have sparked speculation that Instagram, the popular social media platform owned by Meta, may be working on an AI chatbot feature.

These leaked images showcase an in-progress development that could potentially introduce AI-powered chatbots to the platform.

The leaked information indicates that these AI agents would possess the ability to answer user inquiries and provide advice. Users would have the option to choose from a variety of 30 different AI personalities, each capable of assisting with message composition. While the specific AI tools Instagram plans to utilise to power these chatbots remain undisclosed, Meta has previously embraced generative AI technologies across various aspects of its business, including advertising sales.

In a recent announcement, Meta introduced AI Sandbox, a platform that enables advertisers to create alternative versions of advertisements, along with background images and image cropping, leveraging the potential of AI. Additionally, Meta unveiled its proprietary AI coding tool called CodeCompose, though it is not yet available to the public.

While these developments suggest Instagram's growing interest in AI, rumors have also emerged regarding the platform's potential creation of a Twitter competitor. According to leaked information about a text-based app, internally referred to as "Barcelona," Instagram is reportedly working on a standalone application that would seamlessly integrate with its existing platform. Although Instagram has neither confirmed nor denied these rumors, if they prove accurate, the Twitter-like service may debut sometime this summer.

Interestingly, Instagram's rumored AI chatbot feature bears resemblance to Snapchat's My AI, which was met with mixed reviews upon its release. It remains to be seen whether Instagram's foray into AI chatbots will prove more successful and beneficial to its user base or fade into obscurity.
