Amid the ongoing controversy in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri, the Supreme Court (SC) of India, on Monday, showed its disappointment over the violence and termed it as unfortunate.

The Apex Court said that nobody takes responsibility when something like this happens.

The top court was hearing a plea filed by Kisan Mahapanchayat asking for permission to conduct a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

There should be no further protests in order to stop incidents like Lakhimpur Kheri, said Attorney General KK Venugopal, who appeared for Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Centre government.

The SC has said that it will look into whether a party or a person who has moved a constitutional court be also permitted to protest against the same issue and defer the hearing to October 21.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Yogi Adityanath-led  Uttar Pradesh government, on Monday, halted the internet connection and restricted politicians from entering Tikonia in Lakhimpur Kheri, the main site where eight people were killed, on Sunday.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, who tried to reach the spot, was stopped and detained by the UP Police in Sitapur. Priyanka Gandhi, took to Twitter and wrote, (roughly translated to English), "How much does BJP hate the farmers of the country? Don't they have a right to live? If they raise their voice, will you shoot them, will you trample on the car? Enough. This is a country of farmers, not a fiefdom of BJP's brutal ideology. Kisan Satyagraha will be strengthened and the voice of the farmer will be louder."

Now, Gandhi has sat on a hunger strike to support the farmers.

UP Congress has tweeted, "Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has been arrested. She is on a hunger strike. Congressmen are protesting. The government will have to bow to our demands. Voice for justice will be raised with more strength.

A total of 8 persons have died in the clash and 4 of them are farmers. According to the protesters, a car from the convoy of the Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son, ran over the protesters who were going back, after staging a protest against the controversial farm laws by the Union Government.

However, UP Police also alleged that the other 5 were beaten up by the protesters.

Meanwhile, the BJP minister has denied the allegations against his son and said that he was in the car when it ran over the protesters. The police have booked the minister and his son after farmers filed the complaint.

Also, the UP government said that it will compensate the families of the farmers killed and government jobs for kin, after negotiating with the protesting farmers, led by farmer leader Rakesh Tikait.

Hence, after the negotiations, the farmers permitted the administration to hold the last rites of the protesters who were killed, on Sunday.
