The Karnataka government has begun irrigation projects worth Rs 2,800 crores to help farmers in the Krishna region, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, after inaugurating a convention of beneficiaries of State and Union Government schemes in Ilkal in the Hungund Assembly constituency, Bommai stated that Hungund is an important place known for the Ilkal sarees and that the granite discovered here is exported to international markets.

He attributed the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's record growth in agriculture and industry. In Hungund taluk, the Kisan Sanman scheme has touched 36,598 farmers. According to him, the second instalment of this scheme, worth Rs 975 crore, has been transferred straight to the bank accounts of 47 lakh farmers.

The Chief Minister said that there is no disparity in growth and that justice has been served to all communities. In reference to his predecessor, BS Yediyurappa, Bommai stated that the Bhagyalakshmi plan benefited minorities.

According to Bommai, Rs 30,000 crore has been set aside for the SCSP or TSP legislation. There are plans to build 100 Ambedkar and 50 Kanakadasa hostels. In addition, five giant hostels are being constructed. Additional funds have been set aside to provide hostel amenities for over one lakh students, according to the Chief Minister.

Karnataka will hold assembly elections in the following months.
