The Naresh Goyal-owned airline Jet Airways may close down some of its sales offices in major cities as part of fresh cost-cutting measure amid reports that some 400 employees may lose jobs in the wake of the turbulence in the aviation industry.

A Jet Airways statement said restructuring of some of its offices is being done to improve viability and did not give details but aviation industry sources said that Jet may close down some of its sales offices across major cities as part of the move.

"The aviation industry is undergoing a severe crisis worldwide and Jet Airways is taking a proactive approach to improve its viability," the statement said, adding "We are not commenting on any of our restructuring initiatives at this point," the statement said.

Cities where Jet Airways have multiple offices may operate as a single unit, sources said.

The sources did not want to speculate on the extent of job losses following the restructuring initiative. There were reports that 400 employees may lose jobs after the expiry of their contracts.
